Want to Make a Pitch to COCKTAIL REVOLUTION? Here’s How

Contribute to COCKTAIL REVOLUTION

Cocktail Revolution is always on the lookout for creative thinkers and doers who’d also like to contribute.  Because we receive pitches every day, we thought it would help anyone interested, to share a few tips about getting you over the line. Here are 8 simple steps to guide you in your approach if you would like to contribute to COCKTAIL REVOLUTION

1. Take the Shot

Can’t tell you how many times I’ve sat next to someone at a fashion show who’s said to me, “I’ve been thinking of reaching out to you guys”.  You’ll miss 100% of the shots you don’t take, so have a go. Take into account the following simple tips and you will maximise your chances of success.

2. Be Relevant, Do Some Easy Grunt Work First

Before you start putting your pitch together, read as many posts on as many Cocktail Revolution platforms as you can. It really, really helps if you “get” us. One thing we won’t be doing is emailing you back with links to what you should read in CR that could help you with your pitch to us. No-one’s got that kind of time anymore. Do your homework, so you can tweak your pitch.

Your style of writing, images, styles and fashion should resonate with COCKTAIL REVOLUTION and our followers.

3. Make Your Case

In one or two sentences, explain why Cocktail Revolution readers and followers will want to see your idea. Why is it relevant? How will it help them? Why would Cocktail Revolution publish it? What is is about your writing and subjects that our followers will love if you were to contribute to COCKTAIL REVOLUTION.

4. Be Yourself, but Be Professional

Talk to us as you would in real life, except leave the “Yo”, “Wo” and “Hey” for TikTok. Email Stacey at partnerships@cocktailrevolution.net.au rather than going full throttle via a DM on Instagram. Outline who you are, and what you’d like to contribute to COCKTAIL REVOLUTION.  Keep it simple, short and human, like you’re talking to a real person, because you are!   Leave cool-speak for texting on your phone.

5. Keep it Short and Simple

Honestly, we don’t have time to read your War-and-Piece epic on what you want to do. If we can understand it first read, there’s a good chance you’ll make it to the home stretch, not the “delete” button.

6. Make Us an Offer Of What You Can Contribute to COCKTAIL REVOLUTION

When you approach us, remember it’s all about what you are OFFERING.  We get inundated with pitches where people are asking us to “collaborate” without any specific ideas in mind. It doesn’t help and honestly, we no longer have the time to initiate a lot of to-ing and fro-ing. Yes, we would love to meet you, but let’s have something solid to discuss first. Be specific about what you are offering. Hot Tip: it’s about what you can offer us, rather than what we can do for you.  We already know what we can do for you.

7. Show Us What You’ve Done

It makes life so much easier, and we can get back to you pronto, if we can SEE what you’ve done before.

If this is a first-time offer, show us anyway. Put something together that we can see, rather than try to make us sit back and close our eyes to try to capture the gist of what it is you’re trying to explain. Chances are the phone will be ringing, more than two people will be talking at the same time, the clattering of keyboards and that looming deadline will be getting most of our attention. Make it easy for us and there’s a much better chance of us getting back to you quickly.

7. Want to Intern at COCKTAIL REVOLUTION?

All these tips also apply for anyone who’s thinking they’d like to intern with us. Go ahead and make your pitch.  When you’ve taken all of the above into account, we’d love to hear from you. No coffee runs here. It’s all submissions and feedback.

8. Want to Become One of the Crew?

In the face of a rapidly changing media landscape and the ever increasing job-fallback, starting your own blog, if you’ve become redundant or are tired of trying to make your blog work, send us a pitch.  We’re always happy to look at experienced journos, copywriters and photographers. We know you have a lot to offer.
