“Revolutionary of the Month” now celebrates a new or emerging Aussie designer. This month, we showcase emerging designer Brandon Bazley who’s one of ten young design students to be named as finalists by the Australlian Fashion Council. Two of the finalists will win $20,000 and a 6 month internship with a global fashion powerhouse in New York City or Europe.
Future menswear designer Brandon Bazley is influenced by his rural upbringing in Darling Downs, Queensland. A fresh new “rural masculinity” is represented in his pre-major graduate collection, Berneila.
Currently in his final trimester of a Bachelor of Design at the Whitehouse Institute of Design in Melbourne, 23-year old Brandon hasn’t yet released his own range, but his pieces are available as bespoke items.
“I really fell into the world of fashion through my time spent training as a dancer,” says Brandon. “I always appreciated design and dear friend of mine was heading off to complete her studies in fashion, so I thought that it looked interesting, why not give it a burl.”
Brandon says he has many design influences, including architect Peter Zumthor.
