While it’s technically been Autumn in Australia for a month already, our sizzling temperatures can cause us to forget that we’ve already stepped into a new season. For us, April is the month that truly calls for a wardrobe reset and a stylish transition into slightly cosier get-ups.
If you need that extra shot of inspo to get back into the swing of things after a lazy Easter long weekend, here are the trends we’re seeing leading the way. These are a few of the stand out Autumn trends right now on the street style scene that might help give you the inspiration to get out there with a fresh take on your April look.
Autumn Trend Predictions
Our recent VAMFF coverage gave us heaps of new season inspiration, but there were certain silhouettes and colour trends that stood out more than others.
To begin with, there’s bright and bold. We’ve seen this trend teased consistently over the last few months at the biggest international shows, but now it looks like the colour trend has finally taken off down under. Spotting so much bold colour during one week in Melbourne – a city notorious for its all-black street style uniform – was utterly refreshing.
If there exists a perfect outfit to take you from day to night without sacrificing glamour or looking overdressed this season, our bet is on the suit. There’s so much to play around with when it comes to this trend. Printed or plain, paired with a classic white shirt or a slinky camisole, it’s hard to go wrong here.
Everyone loves summer and the relative simplicity imposed on sartorial decisions by the scorching sun, but by the time the cooler weather rolls around, it looks like everyone is so ready to embrace the creative challenge of layering once again. During the transitional weeks, you’re sure to see plenty of summer slips atop new season blouses and shirts.
Colour predictions for this season range from one extreme to the other. On the one hand, vibrant block colours are back in a big way as we’ve seen. On the other, chocolate browns and earthy tones are the new black and perfectly compliment autum colours emerging this month. When done right, brown is anything but boring.
Florals aren’t just for spring and romantic silhouettes aren’t just reserved for nostalgia. The new romantic fashion trend we continue to spot on local streets is sweeping us off our feet with ruffles, pussy bow collars and new season floral prints.
International Street Style Moment
The fashion week street style scene in Tokyo never fails to disappoint. With unrivalled attention to detail, unique silhouettes and a healthy dose of eccentricity, show goers at Amazon’s Fashion Week Tokyo made trend-clashing look like a trend in itself.
