Whatever you’re looking for in fashion, styling, glamour, celebrity, diversity, design, or just plain fun, Melbourne’s Fashion Festival has it all. The paved area between Melbourne’s iconic Exhibition Building and the Melbourne Museum, where guests enter and leave for runway shows in one, and cultural programmes in the other, buzzes with activity. Equal parts meeting place, “Real Runway” thoroughfare, promotions area, photographic backdrop, celebrity-watchers hang out, and party venue, Fashion Plaza as it’s been named by festival organisers, is definitely F.A.S.H.I.O.N. C.E.N.T.RA.L.
We didn’t know there was such a thing, but the “official coffee sponsors” for the event, Lavazza, have erected a celebrity wall in the centre of Fashion Plaza for everyone to have their photo snapped against. Then there’s also a perfect plain urban-grey cement block set apart from the main hive of activity where bloggers, vloggers and celebrities alike have delighted in taking snaps of themselves. There’s definitely a party vibe to this festival and there’s no charge for simply turning up and entering into the spirit of celebrating fashion, style and design at Fashion Plaza. It’s free. Of course you’d have to pay for your own drinks. On the other hand, Lavazza, on hand with their own street style photographer, kindly pass around free canapes between shows. First time we’ve ever tasted coffee and caviar together. Mmmmm…interesting.
Here’s what we saw on Day 3 of this amazing festival of fashion at Fashion Plaza.
